Prada:
Prada is an Italian company, which was founded in 1913 under the name Prada Brothers, by Mario Prada and his brother Martino Prada. Prada Brothers or Fratelli Prada (Italian) was a shop which sold leather goods and imported bags. The company was taken over by Martino Prada's daughter, Luisa Prada, after Martino had run it for almost over two decades. In 1970, Luisa Prada's daughter, Miuccia Prada, joined the company and later became the successor in 1978. Since then it has been controlled by Miuccia Prada. In 1977, Miuccia Prada came across Patrizio Bertilli, who had a leather goods business of his own.
Miuccia Prada persuaded Patrizio Bertilli to join the Prada Company. Patrizio Bertilli proved to be an asset to the company and is largely responsible for the success of this Italian label since 1977. It was Patrizio who advised Miuccia to stop importing English bags and other goods and start manufacturing their own with different luxurious styles.
Miuccia Prada has been working with Patrizio Bertilli since she inherited the company from her mother in 1978. At that time, the company sales were estimated to be around $450,000 and now the company has a revenue worth over ?2.15 billion. The company has over 250 boutiques worldwide and the number of employees working under the house of Prada is estimated to be around 2900.
The house of Prada is famous for its stylish and unique totes and handbags which were initially made up of hard military spec nylon. Now, they not only manufacture bags, but clothes, sunglasses and a lot more. Over the years the house of Prada gained much success and became a status symbol in the 1990s.
Louis Vuitton:
Louis Vuitton, or commonly known as replica Louis Vuitton handbags, is a French company which was founded by Louis Vuitton in 1854. The company manufactures a wide range of products, including ready to wear clothes, jewellery, accessories, sunglasses and handbags. The French fashion house is estimated to have a revenue worth over ?2.7 billion. In 1858, the company started manufacturing flat-top trunks, which became hugely popular because before the introduction of these flat-top trunks, round-top trunks were available which were impossible to stack and therefore were not suitable for voyages. But, the LV trunks were air-tight, light-weight and had an additional advantage of being able to occupy less space, so were suitable for voyages.
In 2001, the French fashion house started manufacturing its limited edition of handbags that had graffiti over the monogram which became hugely successful. By 2005, the brand released its speedy watch collection and inaugurated its store in the famous Champs-Elys¡§|es. This store is reported to be the most famous and successful LV store in the world. The major reason behind the success of the LV brand is that its quality and style hasn't changed since 1854. Their luggage is still handmade.
